Program Manager – Diagnostic Platform
Jeff Mirza is a research chemist focussing on surface science, electrochemistry, and spectroscopy. Research interests include advanced materials and medical diagnostics. Jeff was introduced to industrial research in graduate school while working on a green chemistry solution for extracting gold from ore for Barrick Gold. During his post-doctoral work at UBC he collaborated with a startup developing a point-of-care device for tuberculosis screening. This work involved chemical modification of ssDNA and electrochemical characterization of novel mediators.
He went on to work for startups developing solutions for counterfeit prevention and materials with unique surface characteristics (antimicrobial activity, dynamic reflective color). These projects benefited from Jeff’s knowledge of nanoparticle synthesis/modification, instrumentation integration, and materials science.
Jeff’s involvement in PSI and CLEU Diagnostics represents a return to his interest in assay development. In this role he works with internal and external team members to solve problems and find creative solutions.
